Overview
Venture off the standard tourist trail with this five day exploration of northern and central Kenya. You will spend two nights in the arid, striking landscapes of Samburu National Reserve, searching for the Samburu Special Five and observing wildlife along the Ewaso Nyiro River. You will then travel south to the Laikipia Plateau to spend two nights at the Ol Pejeta Conservancy. Here, you will witness groundbreaking conservation efforts, visit the chimpanzee sanctuary, and enjoy exceptional encounters with both black and white rhinoceros.
Day-by-Day Itinerary
Day 1
Nairobi to Samburu National Reserve
Drive north from Nairobi, crossing the equator into the rugged landscapes of Samburu. You will arrive at your riverfront lodge for lunch. In the afternoon, you will head out on your first game drive to look for the reticulated giraffe, Grevy zebra, and Beisa oryx.

Day 2
Full Day Exploration of Samburu
Spend the entire day exploring the Samburu and Buffalo Springs reserves. You will follow the Ewaso Nyiro River, a magnet for massive elephant herds and predators like lions and leopards. The unique culture of the local people and the striking scenery make for a truly unique safari day.

Day 3
Samburu to Ol Pejeta Conservancy
After a morning game drive and breakfast, you will leave Samburu and drive south to the Laikipia Plateau, arriving at Ol Pejeta Conservancy. After lunch, you will enjoy an afternoon game drive in this incredible predator rich environment, with the peaks of Mount Kenya often visible in the distance.

Day 4
Rhinos and Chimpanzees at Ol Pejeta
Today is dedicated to Ol Pejeta conservation successes. You will visit the Sweetwaters Chimpanzee Sanctuary and learn about the rescued primates. During your extensive game drives, you will track black rhinos and visit the enclosure housing the last two northern white rhinos on earth.

Day 5
Final Game Drive and Return to Nairobi
Enjoy a final morning game drive on the Laikipia plains. After breakfast, you will check out and begin the drive back to Nairobi, crossing the equator one last time before arriving in the city in the afternoon.
