Tsavo East National Park

A vast wilderness known for red elephants, open plains, and iconic landmarks offering a true remote safari experience.

About Tsavo East National Park

Tsavo East National Park is one of the largest and oldest national parks in Kenya, forming part of the greater Tsavo conservation area. The park is characterized by vast open plains, semi arid landscapes, and scattered vegetation that provide excellent visibility for wildlife viewing.

One of the most striking features of Tsavo East is the presence of elephants covered in red dust, which they acquire from the region’s distinctive soil. The park is also home to lions, leopards, buffalo, giraffes, zebras, and numerous bird species.

The Galana River flows through the park and supports a rich ecosystem, particularly around areas such as Lugard Falls where water cascades over rocky formations. The park offers a more remote and less crowded safari experience compared to other destinations.

Travel Guide and Logistics

The park is accessible by road from Nairobi and Mombasa, as well as by railway to nearby stations. Several airstrips serve the park for domestic flights. Accommodation includes lodges, camps, and campsites.
