Watamu Marine National Park
Kenya

Watamu Marine National Park

A pristine stretch of Kenya north coast, celebrated for its turquoise lagoons, coral gardens, sea turtles, game fishing, and the adjacent Arabuko-Sokoke Forest.

About Watamu Marine National Park

Watamu on the Kenya north coast is home to one of the most biodiverse marine ecosystems in the western Indian Ocean. The Watamu Marine National Park and Reserve protects extensive coral reef systems, seagrass beds, and mangrove forests that support over 600 fish species, sea turtles, dolphins, and occasional whale sharks. The beach is a designated Important Bird and Biodiversity Area. Adjacent to the coast, the Arabuko-Sokoke Forest Reserve is the largest remaining fragment of coastal dry forest in East Africa, sheltering rare and endemic birds and the endangered golden-rumped elephant shrew. Watamu is less developed than Diani, offering a more tranquil and authentic coastal experience.
