Hell's Gate National Park

Hell's Gate National Park is one of only two parks in Kenya where visitors are permitted to walk and cycle unaccompanied among free-roaming wildlife. The park is set within a dramatic volcanic gorge in the floor of the Great Rift Valley near Lake Naivasha. Towering red and brown basalt cliffs, a narrow gorge carved by ancient rivers, two volcanic plugs, and active geothermal steam vents create a landscape unlike any other in Kenya. Wildlife includes zebra, giraffe, buffalo, warthog, hyena, and baboon. The gorge walk is a highlight, descending into a canyon where geothermal hot springs are channelled into natural rock pools. The park also inspired the landscape design of Disney's The Lion King.
