Buffalo Springs National Reserve
Kenya

Buffalo Springs National Reserve

The southern counterpart to Samburu, sharing the Ewaso Nyiro River ecosystem and providing excellent access to the Special Five northern species alongside lion, leopard, and cheetah.

About Buffalo Springs National Reserve

Buffalo Springs National Reserve lies on the south bank of the Ewaso Nyiro River directly opposite Samburu National Reserve, together forming one of northern Kenya's most rewarding wildlife areas. The town of Isiolo at the reserve's edge marks the gateway to Kenya's arid north and the beginning of the road to Marsabit, Moyale, and the Ethiopian border. The reserve harbours the same Special Five northern species as Samburu including reticulated giraffe, Grevy's zebra, Beisa oryx, gerenuk, and Somali ostrich. Additionally the area supports healthy populations of lion, leopard, cheetah, and African wild dog. The Ewaso Nyiro River frontage provides spectacular concentrations of elephant and crocodile. The drier open terrain and red soils create striking photographic landscapes.
