Shimba Hills National Reserve
Kenya

Shimba Hills National Reserve

A verdant coastal forest reserve near Diani sheltering Kenya only population of sable antelope, abundant colobus monkeys, elephants, and the spectacular Sheldrick Falls.

About Shimba Hills National Reserve

Shimba Hills National Reserve rises above the Kenya south coast, just 30 kilometres inland from Diani Beach. It is the only place in Kenya where the rare and beautiful sable antelope can be found, making it a must-visit for wildlife enthusiasts seeking species beyond the classic safari circuit. The reserve is dominated by coastal rainforest, rolling grasslands, and forest patches that support elephants, lions, leopards, buffalo, and large troops of Angola colobus monkeys. The Sheldrick Falls, accessible on guided walks, drop dramatically into a forested gorge. The elevation provides a welcome relief from the coastal heat and clear days offer views stretching to the Indian Ocean.
