Malindi

A historic Swahili coastal town blending ancient Arab and Portuguese heritage with excellent marine activities, lively beach culture, and proximity to the Malindi Marine National Park.

About Malindi

Malindi is one of the oldest continuously inhabited towns on the East African coast, with a history stretching back to the 14th century. It was visited by the Chinese explorer Zheng He and later by Vasco da Gama, whose pillar still stands on the headland. The town combines a charming Swahili old town with a lively Italian expatriate community that has shaped its restaurant and nightlife scene. Malindi Marine National Park protects the southern portion of the fringing reef, offering snorkelling and glass-bottom boat excursions. Hells Kitchen, a dramatic red sandstone formation eroded into towers and gullies, is a fascinating geological attraction just outside town.
