Mount Kenya National Park

A UNESCO World Heritage Site encompassing the second highest peak in Africa, offering mountaineering, trekking, and unique high-altitude wildlife in an equatorial alpine wilderness.

About Mount Kenya National Park

Mount Kenya National Park protects Africa second highest mountain and its surrounding moorland, forest, and alpine ecosystems. The park is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and Biosphere Reserve. The mountain rises to 5,199 metres at Batian peak and is permanently glaciated at its summit, an increasingly rare sight given ongoing climate change. The lower slopes are cloaked in dense montane forest supporting elephant, buffalo, leopard, giant forest hog, colobus and sykes monkeys, and abundant birdlife. The moorland zone above the forest line is dominated by giant lobelia and senecio groundsel, creating an otherworldly landscape. Routes such as Sirimon, Chogoria, and Naro Moru cater to hikers and serious mountaineers alike.
